about the mint film festival

What is MINT?

MINT procures its name from Montana International and is a film organization located in Billings, Montana. Our main event is a 5-day film festival every third weekend in September.

MINT is organized by filmmakers for filmmakers. The festival experience drives everything we do. We are collaborating with industry professionals around the country to bring new ideas and strategy to redefine what a world-class film festival could be. We look forward to serving you in September!

Why We Exist

Our purpose is to connect Montana through film and education from around the world. We accomplish this through the MINT Film Festival each fall and with film screenings, workshops, and special events throughout the year.

  • To curate a program that showcases films pushing creative, technical, or social boundaries.
  • To connect filmmakers with distributors and financiers.
  • To offer prizes, grants, and funding for filmmakers to create new films.
  • To coordinate education programs in Yellowstone County for highschool students, special needs students, and low-income students.
“The saving grace of the cinema is that with patience, and a little love, we may arrive at that wonderfully complex creature which is called man.”
— Jean Renoir

Film Selection

While there is now more cinematic content being created than ever before, somewhere out there is the next Ingmar Bergman or John Cassavetes. We want to help discover the next generation of great filmmakers and help promote their work. We are committed to curating the best indie films from around the world by filmmakers of any background or experience. We care about films that have a strong narrative core, characters with emotional depth, and the ability to push creative, technical, or social boundaries.

Human Expression

MINT seeks to curate great films from around the world to deliver a world-class experience of film and art. With a poetic meeting of sound, image and story, the best cinema distills the complexity of our world down to a relatable expression and celebrates our humanity in all its joyous and painful manifestations.  These are the the films we seek to present and champion.
